Preparing Your Home for Sale Checklist
Inside of house
Remove all clutter from the house. Clear off countertops. Remove unnecessary furniture throughout the house. Remove any papers or pictures from the refrigerator door. Put away electrical cords and extra appliances. Bathrooms
Do a thorough cleaning of the showers, toilets, sinks, and countertops. Replace shower curtains with fresh white ones. Clean the floors. Neatly hang hand and shower towels Remove excess knick knacks and put toothbrushes etc. in the vanity. Inside walls
Repaint and re-wallpaper if deemed necessary. Repair any holes or water spots in the walls and ceilings. Are there any colors or objects on the walls that need to be removed Flooring
Is the carpet clean and free from stains? Replace only if absolutely necessary. Possibly have carpets professionally steam cleaned. Are hard surface floors clean and free from stains? Windows
Clean all windows, inside and out. Clean draperies and blinds. Pets
If you have a pet, remove all outward appearances that you have a pet. Take the pet to a friend’s house during showings Outside of House
Paint or power wash if necessary. Update landscaping with blooming flowers and fresh mulch. Make sure grass is cut and there are not toys or watering devices in the yard. How does the house smell?
Air out the home prior to showings. Use some air freshener to help the smell, but don’t overpower. Some well placed scented candles can help with odors. Set the mood
Open blinds and draperies. Turn on the radio to a classical music station, set the volume on low. If you have time, cook a batch of cookies to have the warm, welcoming aroma permeating the home.
